    Idiot Mike Thompson

This fellow was merrily capitalizing on the Newtown tragedy by running a travelling dog and pony show trying to gin up support for even more gun control.

I wonder who he was listening to, because his article pleading for "common sense gun control" in today's Wall Street Journal included references to the dread "assault magazine."

So I called his office and asked them what he's talking about. Over and over I was assured that because "Mike" is a veteran and a hunter he knows all about guns - but I never got an answer to what he means by "assault magazines."

His staff got pretty upset, insisting that he knows guns and my equal insistence that by insisting on calling things "assault magazines" it is patently obvious that veteran or not, hunter or not, Thompson doesn't know what he's talking about or he's lying for political gain.

Finally the staff person coldly inquired "Where are you calling from?" I told her it didn't matter where I was calling from: her boy is writing laws that affect me so she will gladly listen to and record my comments and complaints.

The most she would do was promise to ask this fool congressman what an "assault magazine" is.

I have to say I am in not in a mood to obey laws written by people who do not know what they are takling about or worse yet, have adopted an agenda.
Freedom is the dream you dream while putting thought in chains.

Assault magazines are just one of the new attempts by lawmakers to create a term to be used in later legislative attempts. I doubt we will have any sway in making them stop. Case in point, illegal alien = undocumented worker or migrant. No matter how much and for how long we protested that, it still apears in legislation in nearly every state. Welcome to propaganda 101.

He is my Congressman, he is a lying douchebag. Every time I see him I tell him that. Thing is, I don't think he thinks douchebag is an epithet. Nor liar.

Unfortunately it seems that most the folks in office have no clue what they are legislating. Such as anyone who supports or supported the AW ban. Anyone who had any knowledge of firearms would know that these ban features rather than anything else but of course our officials feel that they have a good handle on things because they watch CNN.

He published a column in today's WSJ:

Note that he backed off the assault weapon ban he had been championing up until a few days ago.

Now all that's left besides increased background checks is banning "assault magazines" (standard capacity mags). I don't think that one will see the light either.

The rest might just be what could pass both houses. Note how he mentions California's APPS (which was put in place on January 1st, 2012). I posted about it a few times in here, and I'm not surprised he mentions generalizing it - it actually is a system that makes sense (provided people who see their rights restored actually get their guns back).

Why are the majority of numbnut politicians located in California? What did we do that was so awful that we deserve this? Is it because of the nice weather and hot chicks? I'll give it all up for politicians that support gun rights and quit taxing me to death.

Thompson is anything but a moron. But he's a politician.

I find it very short-sighted when people insult the intelligence of people who disagree with them. That's not the way you gain support. You just alienate people, and that makes you look prejudiced, narrow-minded, self-righteous, and not very smart either.

Easy--move to Florida or Texas and your problems are solved. Nice weather (in some parts of those states), hot chicks (at least during spring break), politicians that support gun rights, and lower taxes...

Several of my friends have moved out--I'm seriously thinking of following them.
