Parents are leaving the state, need gun advice

Hi Calguns,

I've kept my firearms in my parent's safe for many years now and haven't been very active in the firearms community (I was living with someone who did not want firearms in the house) so I kind of forgot about them for a while.

Now my parents are selling their house and moving to TX, and I want to know what I can do with my firearms. I would like to keep at least one or two of them here, secured, in a safe. However, What is the proper actions to take to transfer some of these firearms to my parents so they can bring them out of state? I remember reading they changed the the law regarding interfamilial transfers a little while ago..

Any advice is appreciated pertaining to the laws related to my situation..

Guns arent much use at your parwnts safe!

They dont need to do anything to take them to Texas. Once they are in Texas it wont matter at all.

Don't take anything out of state. There may come a time when they will not be legal to bring back in. Hell, that might be the case now.

However, if you still prefer to make a specific transfer:

For any long guns (other than a registered 'assault weapon') you take the long guns and say 'Mom, dad, here's my gift to you - enjoy!'

For handguns, do the same, but help them file the Operation of Law form - http://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/pd...rms/oplaw.pdf? - one form and one $19 fee for all of the handguns you transfer to them. (Not each, all.)
