White House Confident will pass *some* legislation

Barrasso, speaking on CNN's "State of the Union," also noted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, had voiced doubt about prospects for reinstating a ban on assault weapons.
"I don't think Senator Harry Reid even brings it to the Senate floor because he has six Democrats up for election in two years in states where the president received fewer than 42 percent of the votes," Barrasso said.
"And he doesn't want his Democrats to have to choose between their own constituents and the president's positions," he said, highlighting the political perils of gun control legislation for Democrats from pro-gun western and rural states.

Its how Washington D.C. works. The Democrats propose total bans on everything, the Republicans say "hell no", and back and forth it goes until something watered down and ineffective passes as law.

Unfortunately, even if one item of the proposed AWB renewal passes we lose. I seriously doubt another AWB will pass in its current form, but a watered down version with Federal 10+ round magazine limits and nationwide background checks will probably pass with ease. The Republicans will claim they kept the bulk of the evil laws at bay, the Democrats will claim a Federal limit on high cap magazines is a positive step forward for gun control, and we the law abiding weapon owners get f***ked.

I honestly only really see the universal backround check and maybe a federal ban of 30 will be a win cause all the damn libs talk about is 50 and 100 "clips"

it is getting so bad worrying about breaking some law out on the gun range that it is getting hard to just have fun shooting. i bet they would rather throw me in jail for some minor infringement, than a gang banger with a full auto AK 47 with a 30 round mag. in fact i am sure of it.

The only thing I see passing is back round checks nationwide. In CA, when I go shooting I feel like im breaking the law. Its time to move out of here.

I thank all 2nd A people for there support. Its still NOT OVER.

Humm, sounds like you're finally starting to feel the 'Californication'.

I agree with those that think the background checks and high cap bans will pass.
I don't think they will get the AWB and I think the ban on 30's has a chance of falling in SCOTUS.

The sad part about if 30 round mags are banned is it gives them grounds to enforce "need" as part of gun control. Today it is 30 rounds because "no one needs that" many. Next it will be number of weapons, ammo itself, powder ( oh wait already there), pistol grips, etc. it will never end and this slope has already begun to slide.
Since we can never hope to understand why we're here, if there's even anything to understand, the individual should choose a goal and pursue it wholeheartedly, despite the certainty of death and the meaninglessness of action.

Guess what, I didn't vote for the moron who got sworn in today.

Worse, your lack of understanding about our political process is distressing. The White House does not make laws.

You know why I wrote that post?

Because you guys -the same people who voted in a poll to SUPPORT more intrusive government in the form of national universal background checks-wondered why it is out of state gun dealers and owners don't want to deal with California.

Thanks to you guys' spineless dedication to the Democratic Party , your failures to clean your own house have now become a national threat to everyone's rights.

You know why I'm singling out California?

Because the reps who introduce this nonsense at the Federal level have to come from somewhere. Feinstein-the one who keeps offering AWB renewals every year-somehow keeps getting re-elected. That means millions of people are voting for her. When I signed up for this website I wondered how it is people like that keep getting elected. Then I read posts like this.....

I never said the WH MAKES laws. But looks like the first ones to propose these new EO gun-control ideas to congress started at the Whitehouse.
So again, what's your plan of action to 'toss out' the ones there so it doesn't happen and reach congress in the first place?

Brilliant. So you're now blaming CA for the actions taken by this administration's massive federal gun-control proposals after being sparked by Sandy Hook, CT? If you hate CA so much way are you even here on these forums?

I assume you don't want Felons or the declared mentaly ill purchasing firearms through a dealer.
What's your proposal to check a person who falls in to these categories so this doesn't happen?

                          Schumer, (N.Y.) Lautenberg (N.J.), Reed (R.I.) Menendez (N.J.), Gillibrand (N.Y.)
If it wasn't Finestein it would be anyone of those ^^^ above and more. They keep getting elected as well.
So will you be heading over to the NY firearms forums, (who now have worse gun-control laws than CA) to tell them how bad they have it and single them out too?

Your state of SD isn't all rainbows and unicorns when it comes to your Reps either. Your Rep. Gosch is preparing to push his anti-gun agenda during the 2013 session working to kill the “Constitutional Carry Bill (HB 1010) which could effect other states as well.

Still, You don't live here, you don't fight for 2A rights here. You don't know the many good folks here who do. It looks as if your options are only based on a hand full of trolls who post on CGN. That doesn't warrant that MANY gun owners in CA don't know what liberty is.

                          "Californication" eh?

Seems more like "Doublespeak" to me.

Not double speak at all, it only solidifies the fact that "Free Staters" are not immune to gun-control, albiet other's state laws or Federal laws..etc. And are clearly feeling the ominous gun-control knife-in-the-back by the Federal .gov when they bashed CA thinking it could never happen to them.

Let me know when you pick a side.
I've been apart of the firearms and pro-gun 2A activist world in CA for almost 25 years. "My side" is to stand will ALL pro-gunnies in the country no matter what their state laws may be.

Let me know when you feel that ALL gun-owners should be united, rather than shift the blame and punish them because of the ones who so happen to have gotten elected to their .gov office......especially if they didn't even vote for them in the first place.
