Have you written to your Congressman?
My congresswoman and Senators Boxer and Feinstein are totally in the anti Second Amendment camp, but they have heard from me and know that I do not support such actions. It takes mere minutes to contact your Congressman and senators. If they hear enough, those who are not strongly in the gun ban/limitation camp may be swayed. Take a few minutes, write a short and polite note to let them know your position. At least if you have done that, you have the right to complain when they act contrary to your wishes.
