How come the previous AWB was only 10 years? Was it written that way? And on a similar note, can the .50 cal ban ever be lifted in California? Or is it permanent?

It is permanent. It was not written with a "sunset clause", like the Federal 1994 ban. The Federal one was written that way to get it past the republicans in the House/Senate. As we all know, there are very few republicans left in CA government, so there is no need to a sunset clause there were, are and always will be more than enough votes for gun bans in CA. -
