    Intrafamilial Rifle Transfer

My Grandfather whom has Alzheimer's can obviously no longer use his guns. My Grandmother and Mother whom know I own, use and support (hooray for cool family) gun rights said I can have his old .22 Winchester 67 rifle. No serial on the gun (I believe they didn't have any until after the late 60's?) he's in his late 80's and had this a long time.

My main question, is whether I'll need to fill out any paperwork to the DOJ over it when I take it into my care.

No peperwork. A grandparent to grandchild transfer of a rifle or shotgun does not require paperwork nor does it have to be transferred through a dealer.

So I'm looking up Winchester 67's and I read that if the gun's forearm has finger grooves it was made in 1935. The forearm part would be directly under the barrel, correct? If so, this gun was then made in 1935...nice.

As long as it is straight up and down the family tree through actual blood and not marriage, no paperwork required on long guns.

If I wanted to give my sister a long gun. I couldn't. I can give my mother or father a long gun. They can give my sister a long gun. I can't give my sister a long gun.

I can't give my father in law a long gun. I can give my wife a long gun. My wife can give her fathre a long gun. I can't give my father in law a long gun.

Thanks for the info, folks. I appreciate it. Now I just need to purchase some .22 ammo for some relaxed plinking.
