    Handgun purchase question.

If a person buys "too many" handguns in a certain period of time (PPT) does it raise any red flags with .gov?

However many PPT handguns you think you'll be buying in a given time period, I'm sure there's plenty of folks out there who have done many more.

It's legal to do as many as you wish. The moment you've taken the "giant leap" of purchasing your first firearm you've raised the "gun owner" flag. Once you've done that, it's a small addition step to realize you are within your legal rights to own as many as you want and can take .gov to court if they have a problem with it.

My girlfriend never considered being around guns at all until I got into the hobby. She's still adjusting, and asks me whenever I DROS a new toy "So, what is the limit of guns a person can own?" Every time she asks me, I am more strengthened in my resolve when I say "There is none, not even in the PRK"

Out of morbid curiosity, just how many are you planning on PPT'ing at once?

I know there is no limit, but I don't want to bring any questions either.

6 handguns this month. I am going boating next month. I hope I make it home with all of them.

            Wow!
I thought it was the same for every handgun regardless.

The only "Rumors" I have heard (Gun Store Rumors) is that if you buy too many of one kind of gun, the DOJ will want to follow up on it... Now with this said, it's just a gun store rumor...

                As stated before:
One handgun every 30 days from a FFL dealer.
No limit on PPT and consignments.

                Also note:
If you do more than one handgun transaction within a 5 consecutive business day period, the FFL dealer processing the DROS will notify the BATFE that you are doing a multiple handgun transaction. The FFL dealer will send in a Form 3310.4 and all the Form 4473s involved in the multiple handgun transaction to the BATFE. Later on, you may get a call/visit from the BATFE inquiring about your transactions.

I really had two main points:

A - You're obviously comfortable with gun ownership, and they know you have 1 or more guns. As far as I care, owning 1 and owning 1000 are the same, as long as they were all legally acquired and are otherwise legally possessed.
B - No matter how many you think you're collecting, someone else out there is hoarding WAY more than you. 6 PPTs this month, you're not remotely close to being on their radar. Some people collect, trade, and sell these things for a living and do dozens a week.

I DROSed my first gun exactly 3 months and 1 week ago. By the end of tomorrow, I will have collected 5 handguns, 1 rifle, 1 shotgun, and DROSed my 6th handgun. So I move a bit more than 1/3rd as fast as you. I'm not at all concerned or worried, and I don't think you should be either.

Unless you have a criminal past or are planning on developing one, you are a legal, responsible gun owner exercising his constitutional rights.

                  Period.

                  Done.

Move along, nothing to see here.

First I've ever heard of this. It's not even a lame-o PRK policy, it's Federal. I found the form here.

I guess this has happened to me without me knowing it, as I have DROS'ed both a consignment purchase and new FFL purchase at the same time.

The back side of the form spells out the Federal code that calls for this as well as the rationale:
"The information collection documents certain sales or other dispositions of
handguns for law enforcement purposes. The information is used to determine if the buyer (transferee) is involved in an unlawful activity, or is a
person prohibited by law from obtaining firearms. The information requested is mandatory and required by statute (18 U.S.C. 923(g)). "

It seems to me anyone who is buying "bulk" handguns over a 5-day period to commit a crime is also likely to do so on the black market. *sigh*

The ATF following up on multiple gun purchases isn't a joke. I've been checked up on and I know another guy that has been checked up on too.

It's no big deal and most of the time it stops with a phone call to the FFL.

It's real but no big deal.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Not a criminal, and no plans to become one. I just don't want to have to explain to some JBT why I NEED 2 or more handguns.

I know a few coppers who ended up on the ATF watch list for purchasing large quantities.

Ah, OK. so last month when I PPT 5 and new purchased 1 Dros all in a matter of 3 days I'm flaged? No problem as I'm legal I won't worry about it.
