Well, I didn't want to do it. I didn't want to buy into the hype.... but, I wanted to get some .22 ammo so that the family could plink well into the summer and I would not have to hunt for ammo all year.
So.....
I called Milwall on Thursday and asked how much .22 ammo they would have. I was told the quantities of the type of ammo I wanted and I figured that, even with a crowd, I would be able to get what I needed.
Got up early. Didn't have a cup of coffee because I didn't want to have to "lose my place in line" later in the morning to use the restroom.
Got to the Cow Palace at 8 am. Probably 500 people in one line and 500 people in another. Sneaky folks discovered that you could get tickets on-line, the rest of us would need to wait in line, get a ticket and then wait in the main line. Lucky for me the NRA folks were setting up. I quickly gave them a renewal and got an entrance ticket. About 845, a lady walked down the line and told people with on-line tickets to get in another line. As I inched towards the door, I looked behind me and noticed the line stretched to Geneva, probably 3-4000 strong, before the doors opened!
Once inside I went straight to the Milwall booth. Two lines had formed and I felt comfortable with my position. About ten minutes later a security guard informed my line that we were in error and had to lap around some additional booths. At 12:30 I got to the counter. Milwall was well staffed and the folks were pleasant. Their prices seemed very similar to "pre-hysteria". I was able to get the last case of .22 mini-mags ($7.30 per 100) and some bulk Remington stuff. I WANTED MORE! No way was I going to wait in another line later in the coming year (if available at all) for 4-5 hours! Sucks for me.
They did have some Hornady .223, 50 rounds for $29.00 that went fast. The clerk did not know if they were going to resupply for tomorrow.
If you go, but your ticket on line! Figure out the correct line by the gate. Bring something to drink. Make friends with the people in line next to you so they will hold your place when the inevitable potty break becomes necessary! Watch for the sneaky line-cutters.
I sure hope this ends soon.........
