Where is open carry still legal?

I'm a little behind the curve. I need to read this new law banning open carry. Hiking out in the middle of nowhere banned? Or is it just incorporated areas? I have a ccw but a nephew wants to pack a pistol while deer hunting with a rifle. National forests and BLM land included in the ban? Bare with me, I'm a little slow sometimes but this forum has to be the place to get an accurate answer. Thanks in advance.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Short answer is where it is legal to fire a weapon, plus your residence. There are more details. There is a sticky thread in the Outdoors subforum that gets into those details for BLM, NF, etc.

edit: the sticky thread I mentioned is the one Librarian just linked ^^^

Its OK to be a little behind the curve WRT laws, even the people who write the laws don't know whats in them.....btw, you should also look into Yee/SB249

          Arizona...

Politicians are like diapers - they should be changed regularly. And for the same reason...

Not in a school zone...if you have a CCW permit.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

Generally OK in my neighborhood, unless you are within 1,000' of the school.

Then again, Taco Bell and Wal-Mart are a minimum of 15 miles away.
Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.

Pity that the one place I'd actually consider wanting to carry with me, and where it's arguably the safest place to carry...out in the wilderness, alone, away from the timid population, in danger from wildlife, poachers, or smugglers...seems to be another place it's largely prohibited.
