CGF Chair on KCAA earlier today

I spent about 30 minutes on "It's a crime" on KCAA talking about gun control earlier today.

Audio here. I start about 6 minutes in.

I'll be on Guntalk tomorrow at 11:05AM.

Where do you get this energy?

I don't think most know how much you do and have done outside of CGF. Just you CGF work is impressive, but adding all the rest is mind blowing.

I'll probably get grief for this but...

You speak a lot of prohibiting mentally ill from owning firearms and I agree to a point. The insane should not have guns.

What is a mental illness and who is mentally ill? How do we define mentally ill and who should be prohibited?

Prohibiting 46.4% of all US adults from owning firearms is a good start if you're in the Brady camp.

An overview of statistics for anxiety disorders. Combined, anxiety disorders are the most common mental disorders in the United States.

And probably even more with ADHD thrown in. Would depression qualify?

What I'm getting at is I see a pretty little path for the antis to push for "common sense" gun laws prohibiting the mentally ill then letting, oh lets say, the CDC define what qualifies as a mental illness. Then BAM 46.4% of US adults are prohibited.

And don't even get me started on the privacy issues... I want the government to stay out of my medical records.

If gun rights are civil rights how can we take them away from somebody for an illness?

With that said thank you for doing what you do. Keep up the good work.

                    Good one

Its refreshing to hear an interview without the host interjecting their point of view constantly. Some of the points went a little over Ms Mclean's head but she seemed genuinely interested. This is the side of the story that needs to get out to the non-gun folks.

Thanks, Gene, for being a well spoken representative for us.

Maybe his definition of "metally ill" is the same as you definition of "insane". Don't stress too much about being picky on specifi syntax.
This goes along as restricting some criminals, and drug users.
Its a difficult balance to achieve, but there has to be some compromise.
However, its tough to enforce a no-sale policy to the insane without violating HIPAA

My definition of mentally ill for firearms dispossession is someone who is a danger to self or others. I've personally experienced what that really means in my family and it's not someone who is depressed taking a basic SSRI.

                              Gene:

                              Well done sir.
Having spent 20 years behind the mic I can tell you the program host had done minimal if any preparation prior to your phone interview. She also had a hard time multi-tasking the interview and synopsizing the emailed questions.
Nonetheless, a great job on your part saying and explaining what needs to be said and explained.
                              Bravo sir!
