As I was watching Good Day Sacramento this morning they reported on SB249, and during the report mentioned that it 'would have banned assault weapons' and something along the lines of 'weapons capable of firing several dozen rounds in a few seconds'. As I was watching it occurred to me that they were basically reading a report that I myself had read at some point yesterday. This got me wondering as to whether or not groups such as the CalGuns Foundation released anything to the media? So long as the non-shooting public (and some shooters for that matter) remain uninformed, we will be fighting an uphill battle. Keywords such as 'assault weapon' instead of firearm and the media tendency to link incidents such as the Aurora shooting will always spark emotion in the public. I was in the process of composing an e-mail not only defining the the difference between assault weapons and the firearms we use, but also suggesting they visit a local FFL that would explain the difference. I stopped myself for two reasons: the laws are so complex that they cannot be properly explained in an e-mail, and I didn't want to name any FFLs to volunteer them without speaking to them first. I guess that was my long winded way of suggesting that CGF reach out to educate the non shooting public, if they don't already. I realize that this takes money, and I am willing to do my part and donate to the cause, but is this something that makes sense to anybody else? I see the value in fighting for our rights legally, but I think removing the stigma of gun ownership in the public eye will also go a long way.

Write the directors of the show.
Write the directors of the show. Pointing out the fallacies in there news reporting, along with the ramifications regarding public policy as the result. I did several times over the last month or so on the reporting of SB249 and other issues. I was surprised by the comments I received back. News directors seem to be the only one concerned with the correctness of their news reporting.Comment
