    Statistics

Ive been reading a lot of articles lately and noticed various articles point to certain statistics (Homicide rates, violent crimes, gun ownership, gun-related crimes, etc.) of various countries. I was hoping someone could point me to or compile a good list of statistics in one clean condensed sheet with cites to sources. My idea is to have something I can keep in my wallet and if gun control pops up in a conversation I can refer to this sheet. Especially with SB249 being the big topic lately, things like less than 2% of crimes involving guns are committed with rifles of any type (but also listing the source of the info). Thoughts?

Gun Facts is an ongoing project to bring honesty into the debate about guns, violence and control.

Cites all of its sources. A lot of them are from the FBI.

I found these sites to be of some interest.

Information and statistics regarding causes and number of deaths in the US, particularly those involving controlled substances or substance use.

The above sites I posted are more of an overall look at causes of death in the US. More information=more ammunition (so to speak) to support your position. I have used them with some beneficial results, as long as the person you are debating with has a reasonable amount of intelligence (i.e. not most politicians, or liberals, although there are exceptions in both groups, hahaha).

Other ways of dieing each year that never get used...

OTC drugs kill just over 3000 people a year. From either allergic reactions to people over dosing. CDC

Cell phones contribute to 6500 deaths a year in traffic accidents (calls, texting, playing games) it is the number one cause of mass transit accidents. CDC and DOT Depot Highway safety.

Doctor negligence kills on average 100k people a year. CDC and AMA

Over 4000 work place deaths per year. OSHA and many other sources.

All accidental deaths in the US combined kill over 300k people a year which covers the accidents above including car, parachute, off road, base jumping you name it. CDC and independent study from I think it was University of Michigan. That means that gun deaths in total are only 10% of all accidental deaths. This usually gets the less brain dead thinking. DHS

Honestly, I have found statistics to be of little value in informing or changing people's opinions. You can point out cars are more dangerous than guns, but the person on the other end still won't avoid cars, or swimming pools, or doctors. You can cite Professor John Lott's studies and stats chapter and verse, and it'll make little difference.

Until enough people decide to value their own freedom more than they fear their neighbor's freedom, it's an uphill fight. In fact I believe that the only reason the appetite for gun control isn't stronger is that people also fear crime, and the rising level of social decay decades of liberalism has wrought.

At the end of the day, it's a moral argument, and we need to start thinking like the other side.

How many more defenseless women need to be raped, how many more elderly need to beaten by thugs for the meager contents of their wallets and purses before we stop denying people the right to defend themselves?

Why are good people forced to walk the streets unarmed and cower in fear of predators who are always armed regardless of what laws get passed?

As I referenced above, Professor John Lott has really crunched the stats and numbers, and perhaps you could excerpt information from his studies into some format you could carry around in your wallet.
