    suppressors and home defense.

The military and police are starting to use suppressors in close quarter combat, this is because they reduce noise and muzzle flash in close quarter combat.

The reason silencers were included in the original NFA had to do with poaching.

The public perception of silencers since at least the 1960s is that silencers are tools of highs and that silencers make guns whisper quite(Hollywood).

Hollywood and the anti gun Libtards have set themselves up due to their lies for us to create a new unregulated tool which we would call sound suppressors.

The premise is simple, sound suppressors don't make guns silent, what they do is reduce the decibel volume so that you can shoot your gun without wearing hearing protection, especially in close quarters, like your home.

Just as the first amendment protects political speech even on the internet, it is reasonable that the 2nd amendment also protects modern self defense tools and accessories that make them more effective for their uses.

This would open the door that firearm designs such as threaded barrels are constitutionally protected.

Concealablity is not a factor in most home defense arms since a suppressor would add a few inches to the overall length off a firearm.

The trick would be to come up with a decibel standard that is high enough to be loud, but low enough that pretty much that most if not all silencers could be over the number.

Perhaps automotive exhaust noise levels could be the standard. Ever 5 dbs doubles the volume.

For example, if the standard was that everything above 99db would be a sound suppressor and everything below that would be a regulated silencer.

Criminal penalties could be maintained for suppressors used in crime.

The net effect would be that threaded barrels and sound suppressors would be considered constitutionally protected accessories because they enhance the right of self defense, especially in the home.

A person shouldn't have to risk permanent hearing damage while defending their lives in their homes, after all, isn't that an undue burden on the right of self defense.

I would love to have one, but this suck @$$ state doesn't allow it. And if the state politicians have their way, we won't have anything (rifle wise) to mount them to by this time next year anyways.

I think in due time we'll get silencers repealed from the NFA by an act of congress. It just makes sense.

We're probably farther away from them being constitutionally protected devices for arms, but getting silencers off the NFA would be nice. Or even some kind of reduction on the tax for silencers would be nice...

I understand most of the NFA forms that head to BATFE are for silencers.

In a lot of European countries, the use of suppressors is highly recommended and sometimes even mandatory. In our stupid state, they are totally outlawed. Therefore, the State of California is forcing me to damage my hearing and the hearing of those around me. Can't we sue the state for not allowing this NFA device here? This is a device that is totally banned that makes shooting firearms demonstrably safer. So can we get OSHA or some other health and safety organization to co-sponsor a lawsuit against the state?

              Suppressors are magical.
Mere posession turns one into a super assassin and hit man!
Too dangerous for mere mortals defending their homes.
Better they be deafened, family and pets traumatized further.

unfortunately their logic is that society is better off by being warned of criminal gunfire than you losing your hearing defending yourself legally.

i am all for silencers to be taken off the nfa list and sold as a highly recommended item to own.

even with a silencer on i'd still wear hearing protection at the range. 130db's still isn't great for your ears.
just happy to be here. I like talking about better ways to protect ourselves.

Anything over 95 dbs can cause permanent damage.

I always wondered... What about people with inner ear/ balance issues. Can they shoot? Would the concussion of the blast cause issue with coordination or balance? Would the silencer ban effectively ban These people from their 2a right?

Setting aside the peculiarities (stupidity) of our State's elected officials, I think it would require a lot of re-education of the public (even many shooters) regarding silencers and suppressors.

They tend to be perceived (not unlike "assault" weapons and high cap magazines) as offensive tools. Spies and mob hit men need them, not duck hunters.

I have often thought that a suppressed carbine, something along the lines of a semi auto version of the suppressed MP5, would make an almost ideal home defense weapon.

California legislators already passed laws that limit sound in CA unless you are a gun. In 2002 the California legislature nearly unanimously passed a measure that in part limited sound output of OHVs used on public lands in California to 96db.

I vote on adding this to the list of CG lawsuits against the state. I know, they will say, "this is not the right effort at the right time" but at some point, this would make sense to work on, I am sure.
