Injured vet’s guns stolen by D.C.

(Part 1 of 4) After being injured on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, Lt. Augustine Kim spent the night in a D.C. jail for possessing unregistered guns. Mr. Kim was transporting his firearms from his parents’ house in New Jersey to South Carolina when he stopped at Walter Reed in Washington for a medical appointment in the summer of 2010. After being pulled over, handcuffed, arrested, thrown in jail overnight, his guns were confiscated by the city.

    Paging Alan Gura

I am or have been a) a member of the board of directors of a gun club b) NRA certified rangemaster c) been a fund raiser for NRA foundation d) life member of SAF and e) trained several hundred new college age shooters here in the PRK. If you think that posting a bagillion times here on this board makes you special you are part of the problem in this state - put down the [expletive] keyboard and try doing something positive in the real world for a change you Fudd.

Great story by the washington times, not full of anti-gun garbage.

        I'm shocked at this line:

It is illegal to possess a firearm anywhere in D.C. other than the home.
That's FUD right? How could you purchase a firearm? How could you go to a range? Is the 2nd amendment really completely non-existant in DC?
There is no justification for the public servant police to be more heavily armed than the law-abiding public they serve...Unless...the government's intention is to be more powerful than the people.

Yes, the 2nd Amendment really is completely nonexistent in DC. And in Chicago.

And now you can see why Heller and McDonald are primarily foundational pieces to be built upon, and not by themselves worth a whole lot, and that we have a long way to go before we have secured 2nd Amendment rights that are worth anything.

More importantly, you can now see how getting court rulings is not, in and of itself, going to change things substantially until law enforcement officers and government agents who violate people's civil rights are actually thrown in jail for it. And I don't think that's going to happen in any substantive way, because the courts are incredibly lenient on government officials and, especially, law enforcement officers, even in the face of the most egregious violations of a person's rights. If you don't believe me, then ask yourself why nobody is ever prosecuted for, much less convicted of, violating 18 USC 242.

The Constitution is not "the Supreme Law of the Land, except in the face of contradicting law which has not yet been overturned by the courts". It is THE SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND, PERIOD. You break your oath to uphold the Constitution if you don't refuse to enforce unadjudicated laws you believe are Unconstitutional.

The real world laughs at optimism. And here's why.

Hell we barely have half of the 2nd Amendment in California (mostly have keep with a bunch of arbitrary restrictions, but effectively no bear at all for the vast majority of the population in the most populous counties - yeah lawsuits are in progress).

Congress should set the smackdown on DC, though. The Republicans alone could make the rules for the District, can't they?

AS it is, I'm in favor of retrocession of everything outside of the Capitol, monuments, Mall, etc back to Maryland.
