    BLM restrictions on shooting

Around 2017-18 BLM Central Coast Field Office started implementing seasonal restrictions on recreational shooting in their jurisdiction which extends from I-5 to the coast.

The restrictions started with no recreational shooting after noon during summer months. Within a year or two, this became a flat out ban on recreational shooting from May-December.
Justifications for these types of bans frequently cite this study: A study of ignition by rifle bullets | US Forest Service Research and Development where they were able to get oven dried pete-moss to smolder by shooting an AR500 plate deflecting directly at the moss.

I believe these restrictions increased because there was not any push back. However, after learning that BLM Bakersfield Office and BLM Mother Lode office do not have any similar restriction, I would like to get some push back going.

What I don't want to happen is for Bakersfield and Mother Lode to increase their restrictions to match Central Coast.

Does anyone know someone in the BLM organization? Would there be any support for a petition?

while i am a fan of restrictions,,,with our constant wildfires that many times are out of control for a length of time (Moorpark fire a great example, where we live),,i can understand restricting shooting in BLM areas as not all shooters demonstrate common sense and could easily start a fire,,,,there needs to be areas that are cleared allowing for safe shooting, but BLM has trouble even writing regulations that make sense, so having them do something that makes sense and reasonable is probably near impossible,,,but it would be of value
