Seniors and Guns: Goldilocks Gun Control

    http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news...h-concern.html

"The firearms industry has tried to taken advantage of senior's fears and developed guns specifically for people with arthritis and mobility limitations."

    Whole lot of nothing.

"A mound of evidence..." yep, sounds like a "mound" of something; most likely scat.

Their "mound of evidence" *is* a pile of crap. All of the listed references have one name in common: David Hemenway; and the vast majority of other studies have either Matthew Miller, Deborah Azrael, or both listed.

Edgar Suter has a similarly titled essay - Goldilocks Gun Control.

Dr Suter used to be around in Contra Costa, oh, 15-20 years ago. I wonder where he is these days.

And here's a blog post with a GGC cartoon: http://armedandsafe.blogspot.com/200...revisited.html

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

I am reminded of one of my favorite Oleg Volk images:

                  I get the suicide angle

People with hopeless health issues kill themselves. Use a gun or a bottle of pills. Doesn't matter much in the end.

"A mound of evidence tells us that risk of violent death increases immediately after the purchase of a handgun — mostly due to suicides and accidents — and remains high for at least five years. This risk, however, is particularly high among those age 65 and older."

Obviously it takes five years to get over the almost irresistable urge to commit suicide whenever you think that you have a gun in your closet. Personally, whenever I have Dulce de Leche icecream in the fridge, I have an overwhelming urge to eat it until the the tub is empty. Maybe it's the same sort of thing?

Actually, in all western worlds, white males over 65 are more prone to commit suicide. Although not feeling that way myself, as a member of that demographic group I can understand the motivation.
