I have heard conflicting statments on this. When it comes to hi capacity magazines in CA, are they illegal to own or are they illegal to use or both. If I went out to another state to go shooting or hunting etc and I had a high cap. mag, could I bring it into the state legally?

They are neither illegal to own or use.
Sale, offering for sale, importation, and manufacture have all been prohibited since 1/1/2000. Bringing a large capacity magazine into this state from another state would be illegal unless you possessed that magazine within CA before 1/1/2000.

Not illegal to use or own as long as you owned it before 12:00 A.M. January 1, 2000.
You cannot bring an assembled magazine with a more than 10 round capacity into the state of California unless you owned it and possessed it in California before 12:00 A.M. January 1, 2000 HTH c goodComment

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment
