    Intrafamily transfer of rifle

While I've always understood that the transfer of a long gun between father and son who are both Calif. residents or vice versa is paperless, I'm a bit confused about filing a "Notice of No Longer in Possession" form. While the link on DOJ BOF website calls it a "No longer in possession of handgun" form, the form, which was just revised, has boxes for both handguns and long guns. (Doesn't distinguish for a serial number for either.)

The instruction sheet says the DOJ won't process the form without some other documentation.

So, this brings up the question of....does anyone fill out the No Longer in Possession form for a father/son transfer between two residents of Calif.? Is this something that should be done?

    Why bother?

Until 2014, long guns are not registered to anyone (unless registered 'assault weapons').

    No point in an NLIP.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
