Va. scraps one gun a month rule

Approval of the one-gun-a-month repeal (Senate Bill 323), sponsored by Sen. William Carrico, R-Grayson, signaled what is likely to be the most significant change to Virginia's gun laws this year. The one-gun-a-month law -- adocated by then-Gov. L. Douglas Wilder -- was first implemented in 1993 to address interstate trafficking of firearms in Virginia. Opponents of Carrico's bill said repeal of the law would hamper efforts to stem the flow of weapons.
Carrico said only California, Maryland and New Jersey have similar laws, "which I don't want to be characterized with."

VA 1:30 gun rule was based on trafficking. What was CA based on? Were they around the same time?

Other bills in VA for 2012:

    * allowing holders of concealed weapon permits to carry guns on college campuses

    * prohibiting localities from being able to require fingerprints of first-time applicants for concealed handgun permits

    * allowing a homeowner to use deadly force against an intruder without incurring civil liability

    * exempting from state background checks the purchase of long guns sold by firearms dealers

    * prohibiting court clerks or circuit courts from requiring applicants for concealed weapons permits to submit additional information
Is VA nice, maybe I should move there.

      Please read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

Things like this are great because they give us something to point to in all the 2A lawsuits. If only 2 or 3 states out of 50 require something ridiculous, and ones that once did have stopped it makes it harder for those 2 or 3 states to argue that their restriction is reaonsable.

The weather is the worst of both worlds between the northeast, and the southeast. Hot and humid in the summer, cold, icy and snowy in the winter. It is beautiful, but also many of the more desireable areas are extremely expensive, even more so than CA in some cases. The closer you get to D.C. the worse it gets.

Not sure if you've been to the area around Virginia Beach/Langley AFB/Norfolk/Newport News area. I lived there as an army brat for a year (Ft. Eustis) and thought the weather was fine. A day or two of snow in the winter, but don't remember it being overly humid during the summer either. Its been a long time though, my memory of that time/place was mostly playing some sort of lazer tag (Q-zar?) near Virginia Beach, and checking out the transport museum in Ft. Eustis.

It's good to see the 2A being taken seriously in some places but it sucks that we live in the one of the few hold out states left.

Change VA to CA and I will be a happy, happy person, lol. In California, good things only happen to the free riders, criminals and illegal aliens. Gun folks are pretty much ball and chained.

They didn't scrap it. I believe it was approved by committee and should be heading for a vote. It hasn't been repealed yet.

VA license to carry holders are exempted from the one-gun-a-month rule, at least they were before. The college campus carry bill will be the big one-they'll join UT as the only states specifically allowing carry on campus;as of now it's not illegal but the colleges can expel you if caught.

lol on the "characterized by" comment.

I guess I should look up what our LTC exempts us from, like 1:30, but I have a feeling we got nuthing.

                            Taken from Calccw:
The ccw only exempts you from the need for an HSC Card (x-41 is the exemption code for dros IIRC) and the safe handling demostration.

Everything else stays the same (not related to C&R Transactions, I don't know squat about them).
