when it says any knife, then why does it go into describing types of knives? i.e." any spring-blade, switch-blade or snap-blade knife; any knife any blade of which is automatically released by a spring mechanism or other mechanical device; any ice pick or similar sharp stabbing tool; any straight-edge razor or any razor blade fitted to a handle." So if it really is any knife, then is it not redundant to list different types.
Yes plain view seem strait forward, however a fixed blade is considered concealed if any part is covered up, but it still may be in plain view. So if on a pocket clip is that plain view or concealed? The law says nothing about carrying a knife bigger than 3'' concealed, so which way is it. That is why it should be spelled out.
The pocket clip is a grey area; IMO, one should treat it as 'exposed' and not use it. That's annoying - I lost several knives that way, and have not lost any since starting to use the clip.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

There is a wonderful tool that allows you to type in what you are looking for and hit enter. It then gives you the websites that have your answer in them.
It is called GOOGLE.
I typed in "Los Angeles County Ordinances" and clicked on the top website on the list.
I then typed "knife" into the search block on that website.
Against my better judgement, here is the result.

Just look your post that I was responding to.
"It seems impossible to find any information on this from official sources...disappointing. "
It took 1 (ONE) entry into google to find the information from official sources.
I only typed four word into a search engine and hit enter, and the very first listing was the official information.
Not quite as impossible as it seems.
I just want to know where (or if) you were looking for information.
Or, did it just seem impossible to find because nobody had actually SPOON FED you the information before?sigpic
If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.Comment

Summary:
State law says nothing at all about blade length, folder or fixed.
Check your local laws - some counties and cities, and University of CA and K-12 schools, have different ideas.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
