driving to reno next week, what are the carry laws?

Driving to Reno Nevada next week. What exactly are the carry laws. When, where, open concealed carry. Can I carry even if I am a California resident? Did some searching, but hope to get the straight scoop. Thanks for any answers or pointing me to info.

      In Nevada:

Loaded and/or concealed in your car is ok but NOT ON YOUR PERSON WITHOUT a concealed license (i.e., keep it in the glove box; under the seat; on the seat, etc.) No permit is necessary for those who may legally possess a firearm.

It is an open carry state, so loaded and visible in a holster is fine unless in a prohibited place (courthouse, post office, secure area of an airport). Again, no permit necessary for those not prohibited.

Long guns may have mags loaded and inserted BUT NO ROUND CHAMBERED in your vehicle, unless you are hunting, then no loaded mags or rounds chambered in the gun while it's in in the vehicle. No restriction on magazine capacity. No assault weapon regulation. AR 15s and AKs are just semi-automatic rifles in Nevada.

The Second Amendment is the one right that is so fundamental that the inability to exercise it, should the need arise, would render all other rights null and void. Dead people have no rights.

the NRS specifically mentions glovebox so I would keep it there, do not keep registration in there though if you do, northern NV cops really do not like not being notified
( even though the NRS is silent on the matter ) so be sure to let them know if pulled over.

if you carry on your person, unless you have a LTC it must be open carry, stupid lawmakers here think lucc is a criminal act.

I was there a couple times recently, and saw no one with a gun. So, don't make a spectacle of yourself.

Pretty much every casino and hotel and restaurant has a No Firearms sign posted. If you open carry and want to go into a building, where are you going to put your firearm?

No, I do not plan on carrying open and drawing a bunch of attention to myself. I always take a handgun with me when I travel, even to families house. Always keep it locked up in a sealed container and unloaded when in the car and traveling. I just like to sleep with a loaded gun on my bed stand, that is all. The buddy I am visiting lives on the out skirts of Reno pretty far from the next house and I just feel better with a gun in arms reach when I am sleeping. Wanted to make sure what requirements there are for keeping it in the car while driving through Nevada. The only way I would carry a gun is if I was able to do it concealed legally.

I like to use the Handgun Laws site for info on the gun laws of different states. I print them out, read and verify the info, then put them in the glove box while I'm traveling.

The signs don't mean much unless they have a sign on every door including the loading docks, that said if they don't want me to carry I don't usually carry in casinos. But I also know bad guys know it's prime for robberies and going to and from your car can be an issue so I ignore certain signs that I already know don't hold water. The atlantis is one of them, they don't have a sign on every door, at least they didn't 6 months ago.

The big things there to consider are brandishing and too much alcohol while carrying. You can drink in a bar with your pistol but if I'm having more than 2 or 3 I leave my heater in the truck. Btw I was involved in a accident involving a Ferrari and had my pistol on me, I think I counted 40 cops that showed up, not one guy asked me about my LTC and one of them was only concerned that I wouldn't be able to pay for the other half of my RR M16 if the insurance didn't cover it. The point is, no one should ever know you are carrying and even if it's in your car during a stop do not tell anyone or say anything. Keep it hidden and not on your dashboard or on the seat.

Now, if you said you were going to Reno next month, it might be worth getting an Az CCW (unless they are now taking much longer than they used to).

So, if you think you might go again sometime, get one anyway. Inexpensive, fast and easy and valid in quite a few states, including Nevada.

However, leaving it to the last minute isn't much help.

I simply ignore them when I open carry, which I have started doing more and more often even though I do have a LTC. If they ask me to leave then I do

I like having my full size semi auto in the same spot along with the spare mag weak side, I have tried using maxpeditions and fanny packs but do not like them because I inevitably have to take them off for some reason & then I have something else to remember.

I like to put on my pants in the morning and the gun/mag come next, sometimes in the summer its to darn hot to conceal , if you casino or diner doesn't want my money its easy to spend elsewhere.

The no carry signs carry no weight, however they can ask you to leave

Can you cite the part of the NRS that says you cant carry if every single door is posted? I've never heard of it and I've had LTC here for 7 yrs or so.

When the alcohol part was written they put the blood alcohol limit at .10 which at the time was the same as for driving a car, the revised the car limit to .08 but left the carry part alone.

100% correct on brandishing, if you clear leather you had better be able to articulate the legal reasons why, the last time I did the cops tried every trick in the book to arrest me but I was calm/sober/consistent and had been loudly asking for the bystanders to call 911 and it got recorded by witnesses when they called 911-that was the deal breaker - they didn't arrest me. One cop threatened to have my ccw revoked but that never happened either. If you spend a lot of time discussing these things on various gun boards and your hobby is learning the ins and outs of gun laws, you can really learn how to cover all your bases. I am so dang grateful to cal guns, the old thr ( when Oleg was there ) TFL and the open carry boards.

Recommend getting your LTC while your there, wife & I had fun through the whole process, met a room full of Cali people & only one or two Nevada people getting permits. It was laughable in so much as the lady in charge asked (laughing)the room full of people if everyone from California is here?
