New Calif Gun Law...???

My youngest is home on R&R (active duty Army) and wanted to hit the range...We loaded up the car with several pistols and 2 long guns and headed to Guns & Fishing in Vacaville.

There were 2 in our group that were over 18 but under 21 (my sons friends). When we checked in at the range we were told the 2 under 21 couldnt shoot my pistols nor could they even handle the pistol ammo.

I was fairly surprised and inquired why someone over 18 couldnt shoot MY pistol with me standing right there...And thats when I was told by the range staff that it was now California LAW that no one under the age of 21 could handle pistols or pistol ammo.

Again, surprised, I said dont you mean PURCHASE pistols or pistol ammo...And they demanded this is now law...Under 21 cant touch a pistol or pistol ammo.

This seems pretty odd to me but these guys were adamant and made it very clear that this was law and not just a range policy.

What say the Calguns legal community?

Groan. GF&OS strikes again. I made the decision to never shop there again after finding during my last visit that they had hiked their ammo prices more than 10% across the board.

If they can't cite the PC that states this, it's bull. Pretty sure it's the usual gun shop FUD regardless.

Many gun shops will insist that their rules are actually law just to circumvent having to argue with customers.

100% false. There isn't even a new law remotely similar to that which they may have been confused about.

Somebody between 18 and 21 may not only handle and fire your pistols, they may actually own pistols of their own. They simply may not purchase them from or through ffl's but that's nothing new.

Agreed... Guns fishing and other stuff in Vacaville is not my first choice. My preference is center mass in Vacaville. The staff is much more down to earth. Altogether a better run business and range experience.

That's exactly what I thought!

I really like their little range...Always clean, good ventilation and is the only place around here that I can find that allows you to shoot an AR indoors.

Pretty sure Center Mass will allow you to fire an AR in their range. The staff visits Calguns from what I gather, as well. I believe they even have the AW flowchart on their counter.

The owner of GF&OS actually posted a 5-star review on Yelp as a rebuttal to all the bad reviews. Lousy PR and a dishonest way of bumping up the star rating.

I've called Center Mass a few times and have been told no AR's on their indoor range. Have they changed their rules? I'd gladly give them my business if they did.

My 11 year olds were shooting my pistols at the local range, and no one said a word.

Which is sad as its a good mid point for PPT for Sac and Bay area guys. They have a big store and could really do well if the bad attitudes went away.

I had one guy say mother ****er like every sentence, now Im in the trades so hear it alot, but not directed at doing a simple PPT...really rude.

But another time guy working was fast polite and helpful...hit and miss...mostly miss...

I'm calling BS. GF&OS rubbed me the wrong way and one visit was enough. And all I did was look at the hand guns and got nothing but attitude. Never again will my shadow darken the door at this establishment. -g
