Assisted open knife legal in CA?

Any reason why this knife would be illegal to ship from NJ to own and wear in CA?

Knives, multi-tools, flashlights and gear designed for daily carry, outdoor adventures, or professional users.

    Thanks in advance.

From a CA state law perspective an assisted opener is the same as a non-assisted knife. So all folding knife restrictions apply.

However there could be county or city laws that place additional restrictions on it. If you tell us where you live, somebody might know if there is any further local laws.

As a side note: I think it would be great to have a list of local knife law ordinances on the calguns wiki. What do the calgunners think?

Assisted knife under 3" folding is legal in CA. An auto (non out the front) under or at 2" is legal. Protech makes a nice one.

I am not sure if Los Angeles has any issues in the city, you could check their website. Verify my information as well as anybody elses, for the sole responsibility is yours.

What I found in LA muncipal code is this (and some restrictions about sales to minors and carry in a zoological garden):

            http://www.amlegal.com/nxt/gateway.dll/California/lamc/municipalcode/chaptervpublicsafetyandprotection?f=templates$fn=d efault.htm$3.0$vid=amlegal:lamc_ca$anc=JD_55.10.
The way I read this is that there are no additional restrictions on assisted openers. And the knife you want with a blade length over 3 inches cannot be worn in plain view.

really? 3+" assisted knives are not legal? Got a code reference for that?

An auto (non out the front) under or at 2" is legal.
really? only "non out the front" models? Got a code reference for that?

              .

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

As are assisted knives over 3". There is no Penal Code in California that resricts the length of folding knives.

There are local ordinances, such as the ones in Los Angeles County, and Los Angeles city, that restrict the EXPOSED carry of knives with blades 3" or longer. That only means that you should carry your folding knife concealed in your pocket, not clipped onto your belt.

So if you can conceal an 18" long assisted opening folder, then you can legally carry it in California.

If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.

You said that with such AUTHORITY!

                  But you're wrong.

There is no restriction on length of assisted folder by state regs. YMMV by municipality.

As mentioned by others, that knife is legal here. What are usually proscribed are blades that are longer than 4 inches, switchblades and others that you can find by looking up the state's PC codes.
If you're interested in that 'type' of knife, Orchard Hardware was (and this may really be past tense) having a sale on that 'type' of Buck knife, for 34 dollars and change, with a life-time warranty. The edge on their steel is the best I've found and Buck's no-questions-asked warranty policy has worked really well for me.
                    Hope this helps,

There is so much misinformation in this thread.

He was talking about common knife laws in other states, not California.
