    AB 809

Does CGF have any plans to tackle AB809 before it goes into effect?

Or do we have to wait for it to go into effect before we can fight it?

Doesn't it ramp up in 2014?

If that's when it is supposed to take effect, I'd be trying to lay more groundwork legally before I filed a challenge to the law. I think there are other cases which may turn out to be relevant and a premature filing could put you at a disadvantage.

From what i've read from a couple of the right people, registration requirements may be ruled by the courts as unconstitutional before AB809 goes into effect.

Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Its not the registration part that annoys me about 809, its the fact that it shuts down C&R long arm PPT cash & carry transfers. Which is a real shame, and probably not going to fall by 2014.

Nordyke, I'll remind you, is STILL in the works.

Don't be too pessimistic on this one. Oh, there's room for pessimism, but there is hope as well.

At least one ruling has suggested long gun registration might have problems. Depending on how things develop this could prove very helpful.

The other thing to realize is that it may be easier to get an injunction against AB809 than it is trying to fix the Nordyke situation. But I think it will take at least two years before the smart people figure out whether trying to kill AB809 is worthwhile - and how to do it.
