Depends on how or what:

1) much do the LEO's like or dislike you or your wife?
2) illegal items do you have in your home that will be found during the search?
3) the evidence was handled or mishandled?
4) you told to LEO's (agents for DA & your "victims" civil lawyer) including 911 call?
5) far does the DA want to push their anti-gun agenda?
6) type of weapon did you use?
7) many shots did you fire?
8) many rounds hit your "victims" & where?
9) criminal records do your "victims" have, if any?
10) criminal records do you have, if any?
11) many children do your "victims" have, if any?
12) much $ do you have for a quality lawyer for both your criminal & civil trials?
13) much do the Judges like or dislike you or your lawyer?
14) much do the Judges want to push their anti-gun agenda?
15) much negative media coverage did your "victims" killing get?
16) much do the Juries like or dislike you?
17) much do the Juries want to push their anti-gun agenda?

lets say you were home with just your wife, the two of you were sleeping in your bed room, and you woke up to seeing 2 or 3 men on your lawn, entering your house.

they quickly break into your home and say "we are not armed! we do not intend to do you any harm! we are only hear to steal your food and tv!"

what would be the best thing to do?

You don't have to be armed to be dangerous. If it were normal times then I would arm myself, call the police and aim the gun at the door. If it were SHTF I would go out and defend my food that I need to survive.
