HK G3 Trigger Pack SEF CA legal? ptr 91 ctme

I would like to give my 91 a better LOOK by swapping Trigger pack to a SEF trigger pack Lower. Of course it would be modified for semi auto only.

Any thoughts on the legality of purchasing SEF Trigger packs online and shipping to California? I would of course convert it to semi only but I am not 100% on the legality of owning a SEF trigger pack in california...

    Thanks friends...

A properly clipped and pinned semi auto SEF pack or frame is totally legal, though you should be aware that it may draw some additional attention, just like an "AUTO" marked AR lower would.
If you want just the SEF steel frame LOOK, your PTR trigger pack should drop into a steel frame no problem, and without having to buy a whole new lower with trigger assembly. You will likely need a new selector lever for the steel frame too. You should also count your US made parts to make sure that you are OK doing this, as the PTR lower is US made. If you aren't OK or go over on foreign parts, PTR sells US made grips for the SEF frames.
robertrtg.com sells nice SEF frames that your PTR pack should go right into. I believe HKparts.net does also.
You mentioned buying a pack and converting it. This is unnecessary because your PTR pack will work with a SEF frame. It is legal to do, but you will likely loose enough US made parts going to the foreign made pack that you will run afoul of 922R. You should also make REAL sure you know how to convert a pack to semi auto without making it an illegal machine gun. Messing with HK packs, and even switching around parts from different US made or US converted packs (especially earlier ones) can get you in trouble real quick.
To answer your question, yes it is legal to purchase. How you execute will be the issue. Ditch the FA parts out of it though if you do buy.
ETA: and don't forget the bullet button on the new lower....
