    Gun Transfer

Hello, been lurking for awhile but finally have a question I couldn't find an answer to.

A friend of mine inherited a shotgun, two 22 rifles, and a handgun when his father passed away. He has no interest in owning these and wants to give them to me. What do we need to do? Do they first need to be put in his name and then moved to my name? Can I just own them and do nothing? Any info you may have would be great!

    Thanks!

He should take them to a FFL and transfer them to you (PPT).

Yoou don't say how long it has been since his father passed away, he should have filed the OpLaw (I'm sure someone will correct me is that is the wrong form) as the gunbs are now his.

But he should be able to transfer them to you without any issues....

Won't be a problem but you will need an HSC card to receive the handgun

Call several dealers and see what they would charge. I know the max $$$ for a single item transfer is $35.00 but I don't know the rules for multiple items.

If his father recently passed away and the guns haven't yet been officially transferred out of the estate you could potentially be named the beneficiary of the will and receive the guns as a bequest from the estate. If that is the case you can fill out the operation of law form and transfer the guns directly from the estate to you.

If the guns are already in his possession separate from the estate then you must go through an FFL and pay the transfer fee plus put the guns in 10 day jail.
