Jury Duty and the 2nd Amendment

So I just got called for Jury Duty. No Firearms or any Knives Allowed unless you are LE.

So without Due Process I am stripped of my Natural Right to be able to defend myself as well as the 2nd Amendment.

I sure hope they offer armed Officers to escort me to and from my car if I get picked for a gang banger Jury - Not.

    This Stinks.

Just open carry an empty holster to the courthouse and every defense lawyer in the country will excuse you

There is a chance that if you contact them in advance (and maybe even if you don't) that you can show up, state that you have a firearm, have secure storage provided for the time you are there, you re-arm as you leave and you're good to go.

The courthouse is one location which may remain a "sensitive are" even after all the legal wrangling is done.

No problem with the Sensitive Area, I respect the need, but they make NO Storage available, which is the problem. I do not have an LTC, Santa Barbara County Sheriff for the most part does not issue them, but I have carried a pen knife all my life, even in the Cub Scouts at School, and have carried a defensive folder for many years, its they feel no obligation to provide me Storage. So when I walk out the Court House doors, they could care less that I have no means of defense. This is Wrong.

            That's wrong, alright.

It's going to take a while to fix it. I think we'll get it mostly fixed - but it is going to suck in the meantime.

I'd bet if people started doing that in my county(Laurie Smith's house) attitudes towards CCW issuance would sure change.

                Move to Santa Clara County?

When I had jury duty in 2008, most of the wanna-bes and real gang members when they left handed the deputy a tag and they were handed a small folder that they would clip to their pants. I had considered taking advantage of this service, but, worried I would forget to take it out before the metal detector.

OT, but, onetime I walked up in my sport coat (second day of trial)and at the metal detector reached into my coat pockets; they were full of fired brass! I stepped out of line; went outside and dumped it into the garbage can out front. That would be hard to explain.

I am an electrician, and have worked inside of court houses many times.
I still have to go through the metal detectors.
While I have all kinds of "deadly" tools in my tool bag, the guards do not like me carrying in my leatherman on my belt.
I have to take it off, and place it inside my open tool bag, go through the scan, and then put it back on my belt.

My knee has acted up in the past when I got jury duty.

I had to use my solid oak cane to help me walk.

I had a similar "oops" once. I showed up for jury duty wearing a jacket I had not worn in quite a while. As I stepped up and began emptying my pockets, I discovered there were some fired shotgun hulls in a jacket pocket. It was too late to get out of line, so I leaned over and quickly (and quietly) explained the situation to the deputy running the scanner.

At first, he had a shocked look on his face, but then held up a wastebasket and said, "Drop them in here and don't say a word".

I'm ok with Jury duty. There are armed Deputies and Bailiffs all over the place and safety isn't really an issue.

I'm not ok with an unmarked thousand foot perimeter zone without armed patrols.

Can you open carry when walking from your car to the Federal court house for jury
duty? What if the Federal court is within 1000' of a school?

What if you walk from your house to the Federal court house to meet your jury
duty? On that walk you *must* go through a school zone, but you are otherwise
                          legally open carrying?

In my last Federal jury summons I asked the Federal clerk of courts where I
could check a weapon, and how to side-step the school zone problems at the
Santa Ana Federal Courthouse. I got the response "You are excused.".

Apparently the GFSZ law (based on the Commerce Clause in the main body
of the Constitution) somehow overrides the 2nd Amendment and the 6th amendment
(both being superseding law written after the Commerce Clause) protections of the defendant. Special time machine logic is required.
What about the 19th? Can the Commerce Clause be used to make it illegal for voting women to buy shoes from another state?

In my county if you are on a jury and ask for an escort it will be provided particularly if it is a gang case. You just need to ask.

it's easy to get out of jury duty.

simply say: "I believe justice can be dispensed from a gun barrel."...
