    Pre-Ban registration question

Hello CG's I'm updating some personal paperwork for my estate and I cannot seem to locate my letter of registration for my Pre-ban AR15. I sent in my paper work to register it with DOJ as an assault rifle and somehow lost the response. Any idea if I can get a copy and or would it even be wise to rattle that cage? Would hate too have them use it as an opportunity to claim I never filed. I made damn sure I did. Please email me private at Imagegroupphoto@gmail.com. Thanks and happy shooting.

I believe you can request a copy of the letter from the AW dept, I forget the ladys name that does it, someone can probably chime in. Otherwise, you can also fill out and send in this and it will show all the firearms registerd to you:

It seems that you are certain you
      (1) know what a 'registered AW' is';
      (2) applied for registered AW status;
      (3) received a DOJ letter listing your registered gun.

It is quite common for folks to ask for copies of their AW registrations (and also other guns registered to them via DROS, voluntary registration etc.)

Thus there is very little risk of you asking for this.

If you for some reason had crazy drama (i.e, DOJ database was corrupt), Calguns Foundation can be helpful but I do not believe there will be negative outcomes for you.

As I recall, to request a list of AWs/guns registered to you, the request must be both written and notarized and then sent to the DOJ BoF Weapons Permits unit (call DOJ BoF main# and double check for a unit name similar to that to get it right, I'm probably forgetting the exact title).

A while back I asked DOJ to send me a copy of all guns registered in my name and all my weapons were on it. So I would say just getting a copy of that information would be enough proof.

Y'know, it might - ordinarily, specific make/model/etc info on long guns isn't available because DROS doesn't collect it.

But that's a subtlety I think might be too much for a field contact; getting replacement a/w paperwork would be clearer, IMO.

If you're putting together instructions, you might want to further instruct your heir that he will (probably) need to sell the gun out of state ASAP.

Hopefully you live long enough to see the CAAWB brought down. (hopefully we all do)

I did my request last March. This should still work.

This info should be current. In fact, several others on Cal Guns just followed my instructions and got their replacement AW Confirmation Letter back with-in a week.

I have 11 Registered Assault Weapons and I lost my list (letter)

There is NO CHARGE..just follow these instructions and format below:

Hi..They require a NOTORIZED signed letter from you with a copy of your drivers licence on the same letter. I just did this and here is the information.

The girl in charge of the assault weapons section that handles this is named TERI. A nice person.

Her Direct Number at her desk is:

              (916) 263-0714

              What she wanted was this:

Send a notorized letter (they want to make sure its you) to:

              DOJ
              Attention: FLPS/ Teri
              PO Box 160367
              Sacramento, CA
              95816-0367

              Here's what my letter said:

              Date:xxxxx

              To: Teri

From:..my name and address (it should match your DL)

Hi Teri....My cell number is (949) xxx-xxxx. Call me if you have any questions. Thank you.

I would like a copy of my "AWR Confirmation Notice"
sent to my current address above.

              Thanks.

              Bob xxx

              COPY of DL here.

              My NOTORIZED signature here.

(it took about a week to get my letter back)...Do not mention any specific weapons. Never.

              Good luck. Bob
