In Wisconsin, people aren't putting up "no guns" signs for insurance reasons.

I love the response of "neener neener."

And we've done nothing for gun rights.

Look, I wish you well and all, but there really is a lot of history behind all this.

You have to remember that if you go back a ways the NRA was actually supporting the restrictive gun legislation we (and the modern NRA) oppose.

The NRA claimed victory in McDonald as being the result of their oral arguments when that claim is/was untenable at best.

The NRA really did try to kill Heller. I think it was for the best of motives - but it was wrong nonetheless.

You have to understand that those of us who've been tracking for this for a while belong to the NRA and think that everyone should belong. There are also justifiable concerns about the NRA's legal sophistication while having far fewer reservations about its legislative acumen and clout.

I love the NRA and support it - and wish it would be a bit better on court-related matters. I also tend to wish it would not spread FUD about UN treaties since we keep having to correct it on this forum.

I am sorry you have not been made to feel welcome. I personally hope you will stay around and both learn and contribute to the discussion.

Edit: Oh, and this is a forum in which it is well-recognized that neither party has a lock on pro- or anti-RKBA legislation or actions. This is neither a Republican nor a Democrat forum, but rather a forum which is devoted to our civil right to keep and bear arms. We recognize what Reagan and Deukmejian did - and some of us actually appreciate some recent Brown actions (mixed though there merits may be). This is not a monolithic forum but it is generally devoted to freedom.

Dude, what precisely is your problem? Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats have been reliable supporters of the right to keep and bear arms. Democrats as a whole have a rather worse track record than Republicans (something no one who has weighed in on this discussion is likely to deny), but there have been more than a few turncoat Republicans. Complicating the picture is that Republicans have a far worse track record than Democrats with regard to the rest of the Bill of Rights, particularly the 1st and 4th Amendments.

The people "in the know" advocated supporting an unknown Democrat against a known anti-gun Republican. Did they make the right choice? We will never know, but I find it extremely unlikely Whitman would have vetoed any of the anti-gun laws that crossed the governors desk last session. Probably the best we could have hoped for is that she wouldn't have signed them - which is no help at all since unsigned laws automatically go into effect in this stupid state.

The "right people" while not as shrill as some in their alarm over the Obama Presidency are extremely unlikely to encourage us to vote for him over any imaginable Republican candidate, including "windsock Romney," and, in fact, have been quite critical of him and his policies, including judicial appointees. Most of those you are calling Democrats are nothing of the sort and would probably tend to self identify as "left libertarians" (fairly hard right on economics, and fairly far left on social issues) although I have I no idea as to how they register themselves (but heck, I'm still registered Republican even though I can't imagine wholeheartedly supporting any of the current front-runners for the presidential nomination).

          Fascinating thread drift.

          Remember, it started with
"...according to the Professional Insurance Agents of Wisconsin, a business that does ban concealed weapons with a sign does assume some liability for an accident."
