To my understanding there is no concealing of a fixed blade knife correct? Here in SJ county as most of you know CCW sucks. A folding knife is slower to deploy than a small fixed blade knife.

Fixed blade knife question.

Yeah, concealing even the smallest fixed blade knife is a felony. But in my opinion deploying a nice folder with a wave feature is just as quick deploying a concealed fixed blade.

You are correct ChrisO, it is a felony to conceal any length fixed blade knife. It is not illegal, however, to conceal any length folder you wish. For example I often carry a folder with a 6" blade everywhere I go. Perfectly legal. And it's pretty quick to deploy, faster than any fixed blade knife in a sheath I've ever used."The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."

assisted opening folders are legal. One of my faves is the Zero Tolerance 0350 which uses the Ken Onion designed Speedsafe mechanism (blade's fingerguard potrudes when closed, acting like a little lever to help snap open the blade).
Or as 4x4 said, something with emerson wave-like feature you can have open as you pull it out of your pocket.Comment

I always thought any blade > 4.5" was illegal to carry, folding or not.
Also, double edged blades are also illegal to carry.
Any "auto" knife greater than 1.5" is illegal as well?
Can someone please elaborate on this so that i can expand my knife collection, k, thx.tere hangesComment

Yes, any of the Speed Safe knives would work if you are worried about getting it out quickly. Justr practice, and you will be able to get your knife out just as fast as you would a fixed blade. You just trigger the opening mechanism as you are pulling it our of your pocket. By the time you get your hand to the guard position, the blade is already out and set to go. I have carried a Kershaw Scallion for years, and I wouldn't trade it for a fixed blade knife, ever.

There is no max blade length on a folder, IIRC. (In CA)sigpic

There is no CA PC that deals with blade length on non-auto folders, or fixed blades. There are local ordinances that deal with a maximum length on knives carried exposed. LA County and City ordinances prohibit the exposed carry of any knife 3" in length or longer. An 18" folding knife carried concealed would be perfectly legal.I always thought any blade > 4.5" was illegal to carry, folding or not.

Double edged knives are 100% LEGAL in CA. The confusion comes from the Penal Code using the term "dirk or dagger" when referring to concealed fixed blade knives. To the average person "dagger" = double edged. In the PC "dirk or dagger" is defined as any item that can readily be used for stabbing. A "dirk of dagger" as defined in the CA PC is only illegal if concealed.
Any "auto" knive, aka switchblade having a blade of 2" or longer is illegal to carry on your person, or in the passenger compartment of a motor vehicle. "Carry on your person" is generally defined as being readily accessible for use. If you plan to take your 6" switchblade outside your house, I suggest you put it in an appropriately sized box, and wrap that box up in duct tape sufficient to make it very difficult for you to get into the box. Then put the box in the trunk of your car before transporting it.Last edited by Decoligny; 10-31-2011, 12:10 PM.sigpic
If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.Comment

Do a google search of California Knife laws. There is no state limit on folfing knife size. You may have a local law against it, but there is nothing at the state level that says you can't carry a folding sword under a trenchcoat if you want to. The switchblades are legal as long as they are UNDER 2" blades.I always thought any blade > 4.5" was illegal to carry, folding or not.

It could be.
So could a paring knife brought on a picnic, or a chef's knife to a BBQ.
There's nothing in the law saying it must be so, but we don't often hear about concealed fixed blade - dirk or dagger - arrests under those circumstances.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
