    Handgun Paper work denied?

    Okay here goes.
I Picked up a new shotgun on 9/19, after the end of 10 day waiting period. But, before I picked up the shotgun on 9/19, on 9/17 I purchased a new Handgun, Bersa, I was suppose to pick the Bersa up today. But, at 9:00am the store called me to say that it was denied and that I had to wait until 10/27 to start the paper work all over again. 10 weeks ago I pickup my last Handgun purchase.(more that 30 days ago) I have not committed any crimes or anything stupid like in the past 10 weeks or ever for that mater. As a point of fact, I am working to get my CCW, not going to do anything to (radio edit) that up. What gives? Did DOJ just (radio edit) me? Did the store make a mistake with the paper work, and instead of owning up blame DOJ? Can I call DOJ and find out wait the heck their problem is?

Mods: if I posted this question in the wrong spot, sorry, please move for me.
    Thanks guys

Sounds like a clerical error on the part of a DOJ staffer reviewing the DROS etc.
Lumped the purchase of the long gun with a handgun purchase and ruled the 1 handgun per 30 day rule applied.
Telephone DOJ and ask what the problem is. They'll tell you or your question will prompt a realization on someone's part that they made an oops.
I hope that's the case. Even if DOJ made an error and you are cleared your very likely to have to start a new DROS...new ten day wait period and another fee because the dealer is not about to eat it for the DOJ error if that turns out to be the case. Good luck.

ah okay, so this is not unheard of... I'll let my roommate know. I was his purchase, not mine, it's just easier to type in 1st person for clarity.

thank you for the answer back.

When I bought my Mossberg 500 at big 5 this year they messed up typing the seriel number into the puter; I'm guessing they were starting the DROS.
It took them 1/2 hour to figure out how to redo it, and I remember the girl that sold me the gun telling the cashier the DROS would be rejected at one point.
I guess they were succesrul when I picked it up 11 days later; but was really wondering up to that point.

COongrats on the purchases... The only thing I can think of is what the other posters pretty much already said, an error on either the store's part or the DOJ's part thinking that the shotgun applied to the 1-in-30 rule.

The shotgun is some "no name" pump, from Big 5. I guess they could have messed up the paper work for it, but the guy behind the counter seemed like a sharp fellow. I'm going with the booger eaters at the state messed it up.

thanks for the answer back folks.

I had a DROS rejected for a non-reason. While I was still in the store, on the 10th day, I called the DoJ and got it straightened out. The clerk at DoJ told the clerk at the store that he could release the gun to me on the spot. If it was mistakenly denied there's no reason your friend couldn't do the same without having to re-do the DROS.

So, you are retiring or the roommate is?

First, to determine if it is the gun shop or not, your roommate should go to the gun shop and ask for a copy of the denial letter. If they can't produce one, then tell them to log into their DROS, go to notices, and there should be a big fat denial red-flag and they can print it from there. If they claim they can't do that, then they are lying. If they say their DROS is down, then tell them you will wait for the rest of the day and make sure no one else starts a DROS proving that they are lying.

If it turns out you really were rejected for a 1 in 30 day violation, then you need to call the CA DOJ and ask them when your 1 in 30 days were over for the other handgun and make sure that data is correct. It is possible the DOJ screwed it up, if they did, you should not have to start another DROS.

Another possibility is the gun shop inputted your data wrong and you were rejected because they can't confirm you exist. Also, is your driver's license current?

You need to get the roommate to go back and see exactly what is on the DROS denial and then have him call that phone number.
