    Inheriting Handguns

My father-in-law had quite a few handguns and long guns that he acquired over many years - we think most of them were purchased in the 1980s & 90s - some are much older. He bought them new & used, from both individuals and local shops.

His wife gave the guns to their children. She was not in-the-loop for ANY of the purchases her husband made - in fact, she had NO IDEA he had so many guns (sound familiar to anyone here?? ) So, she has no paperwork (or she threw it out not knowing what is was) and now we have no idea what guns came from where - she just wanted them gone, so she handed them out. This is all within California - no out of State movement involved at all.

So - what happens when the children want to sell one of these guns? What if one of these guns is in the database as owned by my father-in-law or someone else outside the family? We have no idea whether my father-in-law always followed the process when purchasing his guns - especially if it was 1989 and he was purchasing an old S&W model 60 directly from one of his old buddies that told him the gun wasn't in anyone's database. None of these are evil black guns or AOW - they are all name-brand and clone factory guns, mostly western style SA, some DA revolvers, a few eastern block (Makarov, etc), some cheap 22 pistols & rifles and a couple of stock Ruger Mini-14s.

What kind of government do you guys got here? This is worse than California.

When guns are sold, they are checked against the 'stolen' database. If they don't appear there, there are no issues.

It is not a requirement to own a gun that it be registered.

    See the wiki -- http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/in...s_registration

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
