    Questions about FTF gun sales????

    Help please.....
I've never done a FTF Private Party gun buy. I am interested in what it takes to do?

Do I still have to wait 10 days for the handgun?

    What paperwork is required?

    Best place to do it?

And anything else that might be helpful to me to complete a transaction....
    Thank you

You need to go to a dealer/FFL who will process the PPT (Private Party Transfer). I can't remember the cost off hand, but it's around $30. You will have to wait ten (10) 24-hour periods before taking physical possession of the firearm.

In the case of a handgun, you'll need your Handgun Safety Certification and proof of California residency when you fill out the PPT.

I've only sold three firearms via an actual PPT process and both times at Turners. Once at the Orange location, once at the San Bernardino location, and once at the Riverside location. Orange took forever. It was on a weekday too when no one was there.

Ocabj is right, and I think the DOJ max is now $35 due to the increase in DROS fee ($10 + $25)

The rules for CA are different than for other states. If you do some searching here you will find threads on gripes and problems with some FFLs since they are required to do the transfers and only receive $10 for their time.

If you want a "where to do it" recommendation post your city or county.

You CAN do face to face transfers of pre 1956 long rifles in california.

So your grandpas Garand can be sold for cash to another collector face to face, as can your old 1903 or Johnson rifle...

Pistols are not ok to F-2-F in any fashion.
