    Question about standard capacity magazines

If you currently live in CA, and have a handgun with older standard cpacity magazines that pre-date the 10 rnd limit what are the rules if they leave the state? Ie, what if you left the state to attend a class/competition and took the magazines with you. Would it be considered "importation" if you brought them back?

Is there some exemption that lets you bring them back? If you dis-assmlbed them and brought them back as kits could you then repair/re-assemble your mags?

Or would you just have to leave your standard cap mags at home and take your newer 10 rnd mags for the class/competition?

The law does include an exemption for re-importation of lawfully possessed pre-2000 large-capacity magazines. You can even move out of the state for several years and move back with them or visit with them.

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.
