How to go about selling a handgun that was cash & carry at one point?

The title says it all. How does someone go about selling a handgun that was cash & carry at one point (10 years ago)? Thanks in advance

    Sell like normal.
    That's all.

Edit: By that I mean, sell it to a dealer, or take it to a dealer and PPT with someone, or ship it to someone's FFL when you sell it to them. These are some normal means of selling. A handgun doesn't need to be registered to you for you to sell it. Ownership is enough.

10 years ago no handgun manufactured after 1898 was cash and carry... that went out the window in 1991.

But ya... Just take it to a gun store and process a person to person transfer. $35.

Thanks for the quick response. My friend is aware that he broke the law by purchasing a handgun in 2001 without using an FFL to do the PPT and he is worried that he might face some kind of consequence for selling a firearm that was never dros'd under his name.

The DOJ is just happy to get the gun into the system on the new transfer.
If the gun was originally purchased prior to 1991 and was never legally transferred after that, then they would have no way of knowing whether or not it even should be registered to him.

There's another issue of a 36 month statute of limitations for most felonies. The state would have to prove that the unlawful transfer took place within the last 3 years.

It's just not worth their time and effort to build a case with no evidence.

My next question is, if he is not comfortable doing the PPT. Could i legally just go ahead and sell it for him?

That would be adding yet another unlawful transfer for you to represent yourself as the owner/seller.

What he did was illegal, but the DOJ is simply willing to overlook the previous unlawful transfer(s) in the interest in getting it into the system now.
