    Importing a firearm from Canada

Buddy of mine lives in the US. He is a canadian citizen with a green card, non prohibited person etc. His father, who lives in canada, has some enfields and hunting rifles (family guns) he wants to give to my friend. Friend is wondering how to go about legally importing them into the US.

any thoughts, direction etc would be most appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Usually involves a FFL receiving the item and processing the paperwork. The FFL must be able to receive imported items. ATF Form 6?

Otherwise, it's not much of an issue as long as it doesn't not meet NFA status.

Remember that Canada has different rules for exports and must be followed.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

I always refer this question to Simpson. I have used them and they are very good. they handle all of the import details including customs, etc.

Any FFL can "occasionally" import commercial sporting rifles. If the commercial sporting rifles are C&R then even a C&R FFL can import them for his own collection. They need to submit the Form 6 mentioned above and wait for approval from ATF.

But military surplus firearms can only be imported by an FFL who is a Licensed Importer. So if this collection includes milsurp Enfields then he should just use a Licensed Importer for the whole collection.

Is it possible to get these SKS's into the USA? These would be coming from Canada.

Or even the M-14 look a like for $429.

Life is like having a map with precise directions and exact stops, you find out that your directions and stops change as you progress further down your original map.

No. Those are made in China. It is illegal to import "munitions" from China, even if they go through Canada first. "Sporting" shotguns and black powder firearms are exempt from the definition of "munitions".

I wish. I've been looking at the various Chi-Com surplus guns in Canada and drooling for years.

Walmart is going to start carrying guns again. Starting Sept.1 at some CA locations. I spoke to someone there last Wednesday at Walmart corporate who mentioned this. The ammo and guns register will close at 10PM, and only certain employees can conduct the sale. Rifles and shotguns only... for now.
