Anybody know if i can bring my California registered 1911 45ACP pistols in the Philippines when I retire and reside their with a dual citizenship as US and Filipino?

    Thank you,

It's going to be easier and cheaper to just buy them there. To export you'd have to find a dealer with an import/export license, and from what I was told, it's the same hassle to import/export 1 gun as it is to do 50. So probably not worth your while.

Years ago my grandfather had an Anschutz M54 and a Remington 1100 in Hong Kong- it would have been MUCH cheaper for me to buy then again here. I did keep the rear sight though.

There are two things you need to do to export the gun to PI.

      1. Secure permission from PI to import the gun. I don't know how to do this or who to contact, but maybe the PI embassy can provide you with the infomation you need.

      2. Apply for permission from the State Dept to export the gun. Since this is for personal use and you are not in the business of exporting weapons, you can get a one time registration exemption. Contact the Directorate of Defense Trade Control ( DDTC) at the State Department web site and they can show you the proper forms to fill out.

#1 above is the hard part, but if you get that completed, then #2 is pretty straightforward and will be approved. I don't know about buying guns in PI, so I can't say if it's going to be easier and cheaper than bringing your own gun, but I have completing the State Dept forms and doing a one-time exemption is no big deal. It's easier than filling out your taxes. The hardest part is getting approval for importation at the other end.
