RE: NRA "Armscare" Free firearms insurance, legit?

Joined the NRA a few weeks ago, if I am understanding this correctly they are offering $2,500 firearms insurance & a limited life insurance policy for firearms related injury/death.

Has anyone ever filed a claim or had experience dealing with these programs from the NRA?

I do not know about the 'automagic' limited ArmsCare, but the regular paid-for larger ArmsCare policies are well-regarded and I've heard no compliants.

They send so much junk mail my way, I have no way of telling what is legit and what isn't.

I asked about this a few weeks ago. As far as I could tell from the info on the website you needed receipts and proof of purchase for coverage. I don't have that for some items. I've been lazy about calling them though to get a straight answer.

I'm with them, but thankfully I haven't had to file a claim. I like how relatively easy it is to update the policy. I acquired a few guns since last year, and to update it I just have to add the estimated value of my new firearms, multiply by .0174, add it to my due payment, and send the check.

Perhaps you should hold off speculating til you know.

I do not think tons of detail is required - at least for regular ArmsCarePlus (i.e, the beyond $2500 non-freebie plan you pay for.)

NRA is very sensitive about gun registration databases and understands lack of paperwork on family heirlooms, etc. It might be a good idea to have some pictures. The NRA website specifically says serial numbers are not required and "firearms under $2500 do not have to be scheduled".

Unfortunately for me I know first hand it is legit.

About 15 years ago somebody broke into my house and stole some guns. The NRA insurance was a secondary insurance and went into effect after my homeowners insurance limit was reached. My homeowners insurance only covered $1000 so I used about $900 of the NRA insurance (it was only $1000 at the time) to cover the rest. I used that money toward a nice safe.

It was a very easy and painless claims process as I remember.

I am getting coverage through USAA. There limit on guns is pretty low, but they have, I think its called "VIP coverage" or something and it covers everything from theft to leaving a gun at the range. I cant remeber all the details, but I am getting a policy for my guns and my wife's jewlery in addition to my renters insurance. Its pretty cheap too. Of course, not everyone can get USAA, and I havent talked to anyone else who has their guns insured through them.

The plan does not require any appraisal nor serial numbers. Just a description (make, model) with accessories if relevant. That's it.

Not sure if receipts are required if a claim is filed - I keep those for everything I own anyway. I suppose if you have guns that you have no receipts for, you should document them with pictures and, ideally, an appraisal if they are nice pieces. That's pretty standard procedure for any valuable object you have at home.

I recently started a thread about Armscare Plus. Read here:

"Let me guess... This isn't about the alcohol or tobacco?"
