A legal brief has been filed in U.S. District Court in New York asking for a summary judgment that would strike New York City's $340 triennial fee for just owning a handgun.

The brief by the Second Amendment Foundation and its affiliate attorney, David Jensen, explains that under U.S. Supreme Court rulings, "the right to keep a handgun in the home for self-defense is a part of the 'core' of the Second Amendment's protections."

Mayor Bloomberg tried to get the fees lowered, but the city council wouldn't go along with it. IIRC, there was mention that the high fees were to help fund the police pensions. I wish they'd tell the judge that

Interestingly, by at least one account it was Bloomberg who ordered the fee raised to $340 in the first place.

It would be less painful for Bloomberg to request the city council repeal all NYC gun control and take 3 swift kicks to the nuts than to endure the humilation SAF is gonna hand him.
