    Is it illegal to make a ZIP GUN?????

    Just wondering if it is completely legal to make your own Zip Gun. If so has anyone made one?

                  They are totally legal in CA, assuming you follow a few processes. They would be classified as an AOW, which are legal to manufacture in CA after you have filed a form with the ATF and paid a $200 tax. There is more information in this thread here:

                            "zip guns" that are not BATFE approved AOWs are illegal.

                            PC 12020(b)(8) states that AOW status exempts PC 12020(a).

                              You have not looked at the law where it actually defines what a zip gun is. A zip gun that has had the proper taxes paid on it (i.e. $200 to the BATFE) is perfectly legal.
