    Politicians going after DROS funds

I was driving, so I didn't get the entire story: (mods, please delete if this is a dupe).

Looks like some politicians in Sacramento are going after the money in the DROS funds, to beef up the 5150 prohibited registry, and confiscate guns from prohibted persons.

I _know_ I heard this on the radio, but I can't find the news article.

    Thanks!

    Here's the big problem.

DOJ BoF can't really track its money. It's all one big pool, not broken down by account.

So what is going to happen is that DOJ BoF will have a big untargeted pool of money that can be easily aimed at a lotta stuff that's perceived as politically popular by the new AG.

Expect, for example coming FFL audits to be more punitive/aggressive - especially if the AG senses that going after "gun dealers" gets more political traction than going after armed prohibited persons.

There will be more DOJ "SWAT teams" to "enforce" the regulations...think of it as Kamala Harris' very own storm troopers.

I think it was AB 816??? Not sure at the moment...but it started as something completely different and the legislature struck the original language and "amended" the bill to allow the DROS funds to also be used for a wider variety of "enforcement" activities.

        Cover for past poor accounting.

Just about everything in BoF is pooled into one account - I think it's #0406. Nothing's separated, it's all mishmash.

Yes, it is SB 819: (from http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=425387 )

One of the bills, SB 819 by Sen. Mark Leno of San Francisco, would dedicate funding to a unique California program that confiscates firearms from people legally barred from possessing them, including convicted felons and persons determined to be mentally unstable. The state Department of Justice, Bureau of Firearms estimates there are 18,615 armed prohibited persons possessing 34,708 handguns and 1,579 assault weapons in the state.
So, you know _exactly_ how many prohibited persons have firearms, but you need more money to get them arrested???? WTF?

And cover for bad accounting? Sure smells like it
