So... I went to the DMV and after a half hour of working with the guy this is what I got.

I cannot have both a physical address and a mailing address on my drivers license. One or the other. What we ended up doing was; I got a state ID issued under my physical address which also was technically a change of address on my DL. Since it was a change of address, I got a driving history report which shows my DL # and history/ address. It just says current address- and previous address. There's nothing official about it other than it's printed by the DMV. State ID won't show up for another 60 days. And I have to go online and change my address back. I get to keep my DL the same and now I will have a state ID with my physical address on it for future. So, is this sufficient?

And also since i've never had my DL with a current address i've always had to show proof(now i live at my parents with less proof which is the problem), normally for DROS do I just say "this is my current address(hands license)" and be done with it? Or do they require another piece of proof?

That DMV printout is a government issued document. Go pick up your gun.

When your DL address matches your 4473 address, you will not need to do any of this for long guns. For handguns you will need a second proof of residency, but it differs in that utility bills, leases, and government issued documents with an expiration date are proof.

There are multiple services that provide a physical address for government purposes, and forward your mail to a specified address at your request or schedule. You can find ads for them in the back of most RV magazines.

If you're full-time in an RV/trailer park, you have a street number/space number combination that you can use as a physical address.

Another alternative is that you use your parent's/child's address as your physical address, and pick up your mail there.

This form is what I use for the "second document" (not my license, obviously), since it fulfills all the requirements of the DOJ proof of residency.

I believe there is a case addressing residence requirements waiting on a decision. Palmer v DC? Something like that I think. I couldn't find it searching quickly. But to answer your question, I believe as it stands now in Ca, If you don't have a physical address you can't buy a firearm legally.

I had a FFL deny the DMV printout. THey were convinced by someone (they claim their ATF agent) that it had to be a car registration. Whatever, glad they are clueless or I wouldn't have got my night Sights!!!

              Now, wheres that dang crosbreed!!

By tax return I did mean refund or check. Interesting other otions. Govt issued paycheck? Govt issued Bill for anything? pretty vague yet again!

If buying a handgun, the state would require vehicle registration and would not the DMV printout. If buying a long gun then either one would work for federal address correction when your DL doesn't match.

And we wonder why so many people can't keep all of this straight. It really is a mess.

                This might help.
