    Restraining Order Q's...

So my father is going through a divorce and the judge issued a "Family restraing order" (this is what my dad told me) on him. Is he still able to purchase a firearm. Its not a domestic violence one.

Refer your father to California Code Of Civil Procedure 527.9 that may or may not apply to his situation (or better yet - refer him to a lawyer to figure this out):

    (a) A person subject to a temporary restraining order or
injunction issued pursuant to Section 527.6 or 527.8 of the Code of
Civil Procedure, or subject to a restraining order issued pursuant to
Section 136.2 of the Penal Code, or Section 15657.03 of the Welfare
and Institutions Code, shall relinquish the firearm pursuant to this
    section

If you are referring to the automatic restraining orders set forth on the back of the summons, they do not prohibit a party from purchasing a firearm. There is no such thing as a "Family Restraining Order."

Your description is still too vague to give you any specific advise. Have your dad read the papers containing the restraining orders. If he is prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm the order will clearly state the restrictions.
