The term 'non-rostered' is more appropriate, since it doesn't get confused with Roberti-Roos or Kasler listed assault weapons (as opposed to the state's "roster of handguns certified for sale").
Yes, anyone can obtain a non-rostered handgun via a private party transfer. -
OK. When Ca resident brings it to an FFL to do a PPT to another Ca resident , they do not have to show how they got it? In other words, if the gun is in the STATE its good to go?Comment

You have posted this question in various forms in a number of different areas...which leads me to speculate you know a firearm was illegally brought into this state and are, for whatever reason, trying to find a concurring opinion which fits what you want it to so the parties involved feel better about doing a transfer on a firearm of questionable origins.Originally posted by orangegloWelcome to failtown, population = you.Comment

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

This from another post:
A Reno resident brings His Smith and Wesson model 27 and a GEN4 Glock. Are they legally in Ca?
This from another post:

jtmkinsd. No relation to the current question but can you cite any law that proscribed the sale via ppt by a non-resident?Comment

Nope...but you know as well as I do it's a default situation through the DROS system...not the letter of the law, but no way around it either. Last I heard the legals were "working on it". As you probably already know, CA only recognizes three forms of ID as valid, a CA DL, a CA ID, and a Military ID with orders to a duty station in CA. So in the eyes of DOJ and the DROS system, nobody else in the country exists aside from those with one of those three IDs.Last edited by jtmkinsd; 12-24-2010, 5:29 PM.Originally posted by orangegloWelcome to failtown, population = you.Comment

Nothing wrong with asking questions...just gets a little suspicious when the same question is phrased several ways on different sub-forums. Most times that happens, the poster is not giving all the pertinent information to get at the real issue.Originally posted by orangegloWelcome to failtown, population = you.Comment

I know many TIMES people help others to sell their guns to stores and other people ( ppt) .
Not once I heard that anything came back......
If in Ca handguns are put in the name of the buyer, don't they see that the original buyer is NOT the current seller? Or for that matter where the gun came from?
Makes sense?Comment

See the wiki article on registration.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

In a lot of cases, the current owner of a gun is not known to the government - registration is not a requirement as an attribute of the gun or ownership of it, it is a result of the process of being transferred through an FFL or the filing of paperwork by the current owner (intra-familial transfer, personal handgun importer).
If someone buys a Glock gives it to their uncle a month later, uncle does a PPT to another person. WON"T ANYONE CARE THAT THE UNCLE IS NOT THE LAST KNOWN OWNER?
My car is REGISTERED TO ME. If I hand You the keys and You take it . You will not be able to sell it and transfer it at DMV to someone else. RIGHT?Last edited by Librarian; 12-24-2010, 9:55 PM.Comment
