    oal ak sidefolder question

while measuring for oal do you measure from the back of the receiver ,
or from the folded stock parts hanging off the back of the rifle ?

    did that make sense?

You measure the overall length... that would be removing muzzle attachments if they are not welded or pinned in place and to the opposite end of the farthest protruding portion of the rifle. So you would be measuring to the outer edge of the stock assembly that remains in place while folded. For an AK, usually the OAL with a folding or collapsible stock is too short to keep it legal. My reg'd Yugo underfolder is just under 25" with the stock folded. An East German type side folder would only add about another 1.5-2" to that... at best.

I don't believe for OAL you need to remove non-permanent muzzle attachments. That's for barrel length. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I doubt it.

You are correct. For OAL parts do not need to be permanently attached.

Not having them attached permanently, or even semi-permanently would be asking for trouble though.

Never said it was illegal, if it ever got confiscated for "inspection", you wouldn't want the MD to "disappear".

You could just put a bayonet on it, but I don't think that would be a good idea. Too easy to remove. Maybe you trust the man more than me.
