Info source on importing a handgun

I'm trying to help out a buddy...not seeking legal advice but trying to point him to the proper source of info on his situation...He lives out of state and is in the process of moving here...he bought a Ruger LCR small semi auto 380 pistol in the other state which is not on the California list of approved firearms. What does he need to do to legally have the gun in California? Can he just bring it here and use if for his own personal home defense (not CCW) or does it need to be registered here? Any guidance appreciated..he doesn't belong to any boards and is getting all sorts of info...and doesn't want to get in a jam nor push his luck.
    thanks

The California list of approved firearms only applies to new handguns purchased in California. He simply needs to fill out the personal handgun registration form and send it in with the appropriate fee.

If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.

The roster doesn't apply when bringing in personally owned guns from another state. If there are any other guns he wants that aren't on the roster he should buy those before moving. There is also no restriction on carrying them with a ccw either.

Thanks all...I suggested he call a FFL and see about the forms, etc...he got what he needed and downloaded the forms and is on his way...I just didn't want to suggest much of anything as I've never had any experinece in this sort of thing...

          Thanks again
