    CCW process in Nevada?

Anyone here have experience with the NV non-resident CCW process? I travel to LV fairly often, and would like to start it.

From what I'm reading, the process is something like...
    1) Take approved CCW class
    2) Submit the application, fee, fingerprints, ID, etc
    3) Certify with the weapon(s) you're planning on carrying
    4) ... (wait)
    5) Profit! (erm, receive your card in the mail)

Any advice/insight? What documents should I plan on bringing? Is it possible to do the entire process on a 1 day trip? (do the class in the morning, paperwork in the afternoon, etc)

Also, I'm confused about the "Blue Card" for Clark County. Some places make it sound like any handgun carried or possessed in Clark County must be registered, but the LVMPD website sounded like it's only a requirement for CC residents.

you also have to take the class IN Nevada from what i was told. Some of them advertise in CA, but the classes are held in NV. Other than that, I think you got all the info you need. The application should tell you what else to bring.

No idea what the blue card is about....sorry

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

usually a 2 day process-depending where you take the class you might be able to do it in one day, the prob is the Sheriffs office has biz hours and the class is all day, I would plan on 2 days, you only need one revolver because you can carry any revolver once you qualify but bring as many semi auto's as you can. Some places you can rent

Probably 2 days especially if the sheriff's ofc is busy. Monday's are usually busy. I had a 2 hour wait, which is unusual. There were at least 10 people from California in the waiting room with me. One suggestion I would make is take the class from an instructor who is also licensed in Utah. You can get a Utah permit which is only about $65. You purchase a 2nd fingerprint card at the sheriff's ofc for $5. Your Nevada permit is good for 19 states, and the Utah permit is good for 12 more states. None of which are California, of course.

          This.

I would plan on making sure your hotel and ccw instructor are close by to the sheriff's office. Take your class on a Sunday, wake up Monday morning and bring in your paperwork. Takes about 30 minutes inside. They take it, may ask for a reason for carry statement and scan your finger prints. You receive the ccw like 3 weeks later in the mail. Interestingly enough they showed me my card with a 5 year expiration date even though I told them non-residents only receive 3 years permits. The lady told me I was incorrect which was fine by me!

Fhe Finger print bureau is no longer a busy madhouse. I went a couple of months ago to add a couple guns to my permit. I was there peak time and there were 7 people there for vaious reasons and I was in and out in 15 minutes. I asked why it was so quiet and they said they changed gaming requirements (Sheriff's card) and that cut down on most of the traffic.

Important: Bring a money order for your fee. They do not take ANYTHING else.

They do not ask you for any reason statement as NV is a shall issue state. And yes, 21 days to your doorstep is accurate (about a week and a half for add ons). Whats interesting is that you get a new permit and get to keep the old one(S) too, and they are valid for whats listed on them. If you get over a certain amount of guns listed on the back of your card where you run out of room, ( I exceeded that amount because hey dont ket you remove the old ones until renewal), you get two permits in the mail.

Every county is different and some counties have cheesy (not as cheesy as CA's rice paper) permits. Vegas has the coolest, most proffoesional looking one I have seen. It can easily be mistaken for LE ID.

Wow, had no idea the Nevada permitting process was so...clunky.

All permits are for 5 years now. The nonresident period was changed from 3 to 5 years around 2007 or 2008.

BTW I have always had to wait three months, for the first one and the requal.
Once you're 3 months away from renewal go take it again ( so you'll still be able to pack uninterrupted )

You should certify before you apply, ideally at the same time you take the course.

Yes, the blue card is only a requirement for Clark County residents but non-residents may get them (takes about 30 minutes if they are not busy). My NV carry guns are all blue carded. They asked why I wanted to do this. I said I understood their officers were happier then, as they know that the firearms were legally mine and that they need not check serial numbers etc. The clerk agreed that was true and went ahead and did it.

The Blue Card form asks for date and place of purchase. I couldn't remember, but they were quite happy for me to put things such as "Gunshop, circa 1995."

                          Of course.

How many of those 13 are overlapped? IOW, is the total of unique states between the two 19 or higher?

I'm going to be in Las Vegas for CES, maybe I can squeeze it in then. Any pointers from people who went through the process would be helpful.
