I'm talking about these airsoft/knockoff M203 that fits onto an RIS system. I understand that it would be pointless to attach one, other than for aesthetics reasons for say, a private collection? Would it be legal?

Ok, realistically, check local ordinances for replica firearms. Airsoft items do fall into this category in some localities and in some fall under actual firearm clasifications.
