My family is in AZ, I live in CA presently, but I lived in AZ years ago. I don't at the moment have an AZ drivers license. I was wondering if I just went back out there and got an AZ drivers license and had my mailing go to my families home (AZ) if I could hold on to that and make my life easier by just buying any firearms and such in AZ when I spend time out there? Could I then just bring them back to CA (as long as they are CA compliant configurations) since I have residency in both states?

Why cant I reside in both. The whole time I lived out there before I drove back and forth every few weeks. Kept my car registered in CA, worked (paid) in AZ, etc.
I guess this just probably isn't worth the whole ordeal.Comment

sure, if you live thereComment

It all depends on what Arizona uses as its definition of residency. If Arizona considers you to be a resident for the purposes of firearms purchase - you're a resident and can buy firearms there.
Of course, with a bit of luck you may soon (months from now) be able to visit Montana and purchase reasonable firearms without a problem.CGN's token life-long teetotaling vegetarian. Don't consider anything I post as advice or as anything more than opinion (if even that).Comment

It will still be a felony to import "Montana bought" firearms into California. You will be able to purchase and keep out of state though. It all depends on what Arizona uses as its definition of residency. Asking if its possible = Sure anythings possible.
Asking if it can be done legally, is a whole different question.Last edited by Mstrty; 11-16-2010, 10:32 PM.~

I don't have the code for y'all, but I'm pretty sure that if you are a resident of the state (as defined by the state) you can buy firearms. There are some federal quirks that are being worked out with Montana.
But once you've purchased the firearm you can bring it into California as long as it is not prohibited here (you can't be importing assault weapons and the like). So if you're considered to be a Montana resident for the purposes of firearms purchase you can buy a firearm there which is not (for instance) on the California handgun roster and drive back to California, send in the form and pay your $19.
And Ajax22 is working with the Montana Shooting Sports Association (I think that's the group) to get the legislation passed. Decent shot at it early next year - but passage is not assured. Don't be surprised if Nevada or Arizona beats them to it.CGN's token life-long teetotaling vegetarian. Don't consider anything I post as advice or as anything more than opinion (if even that).Comment

I own property, pay property tax and maintain a home in WA state, i also rent an apartment in CA, register my cars, and work here for most of the year. I have decided to get a an WA id card for the purposes of establishing dual residency. From what i understand this is legit, but you can only have one DL. WA state says your a resident when you do certian things, one of which is maintain a permanent home. i take this to mean an owner or long term stakeholder, they use the term transient to disqualify people.
What i'd like to do is try and get my 03ffl split up, i'm going to call the atf and find out if i can have one for two premises.
Because i pay tax to the state, i am entitled to benifits/privlidges from the same. Shall issue chl, no roster, no awb or high cap restrictions.
If i buy an off roster pistol in WA can i bring it to CA on personal importer form?Last edited by SanPedroShooter; 11-17-2010, 7:26 AM.Comment

As a Dual Resident, are you a "New Resident" each time you move between locations?
